Why People Are Moving To Pearland

As a Pearland, based moving company, we take tremendous pride in being residents of this region of Texas.

We started our business over 25 years ago in this area and over the years we have seen Pearland grow by leaps and bounds.

There are a number of reasons why many families and individuals are moving to Pearland and they all represent signs of it growing even more in the years to come.

The primary reason why people are relocating to Pearland is because it has such a robust economy. Texas in general didn’t suffer as much during the most recent economic downturn that affected other states in the country, and the Houston area was a leader in maintaining a strong economy.

The unemployment rate in Pearland remained several percentage points below the national average. The median household income here is $94,653, which is about 10% higher than other cities in Texas.

Pearland is a city of professionals by and large. White-collar professions lead the employment sector for residents. A significant percentage of individuals hold positions in sales, management, and information technology. In fact, the percentage of IT professionals in Pearland is one of the highest in the country.

It is also one of the most well educated cities in the United States with 46% of adults holding at least a Bachelor’s degree.

Diversity is another motivating reason why many are relocating to Pearland. There is a broad range of residents that speak Spanish and Mandarin Chinese and at least 16% of residents here were even born outside of the United States.

As with the case of many families, the quality of schools here is a primary reason that people are establishing roots in Pearland. The Pearland school district boasts numerous top-performing schools with elementary schools leading the pack in educational excellence.

Pearland also offers plenty to choose from when it comes to public parks, hiking trails, biking trails, nature centers, and golf courses.

To top off one of the many reasons that families and individuals are moving to Pearland is the thriving entertainment and restaurant sector. There is plenty for residents to discover from Tex-Mex, to BBQ, to burgers, to gourmet donuts. No matter what your taste buds desire, Pearland has much to offer.

Overall, Pearland is a stand out city that is growing by leaps and bounds in positive ways. From families to individuals there is much to enjoy in this gem of a city in the Lone Star State.

Five Important Questions To Ask Movers On Your Moving Day

Your moving day is fast approaching and there are a million tasks you need to check off of your to-do list correct?

Well, once your moving date does arrive, there are several questions that will be helpful for you to ask your movers.

These questions can help to put you more at ease during your move and set the tone for the move over all.

  1. How long do you estimate that the move will take?

Moving companies don’t always have a good reputation when it comes to the length of quotes times for a move.

As an established moving company, we are fairly accurate in our estimations for moves when customers schedule them with us. However, it is a good idea to ask your movers once they get to your home their professional opinion.

They are better able to do that once they do a walk-through of your home and take a physical inventory of how many items you have.

This will allow you to better mentally prepare for a day of moving.

  1. Will there be any additional costs today?

Even though you might have prepared for your move as much as you thought possible, sometimes additional costs can come into play on your moving day.

Common additional costs may include:

  • Extra boxes, tape, miscellaneous supplies
  • Extra hours because your move may take longer than quoted
  • Extra manpower because you may have more heavier items then expected at the time when you scheduled your move

Ask this after your movers do their walk-through of your home so you have adjust your budget if need be before the end of your move.

  1. Are you familiar with homes my size?

If you have a 5,000 square feet home and your movers have only moved one-bedroom apartments, then you may have a challenge on your hands on moving day.

Not to say that they wouldn’t be able to adequately move your items, it just may take longer than expected because they will be on a learning curve on their part.

Much of moving is like a game of Tetris. It involves logistical problem solving. Knowing if your movers have experience moving homes your size should put you more at ease.

  1. Can you assemble beds and hook up washer/dryer connections?

For some moving companies these are additional costs and for some, their movers may not be equipped with doing these tasks.

It is a good idea to ask early on if your movers can do so, that way you will know if that will be done at the time of your move in or not.

  1. Are there any beverages we can get you and your team?

Moving is hard work. It is extremely labor intensive and has do be done under all sorts of weather conditions.

Getting your moving team cold or warm beverages is a wonderful courtesy to provide. It lets your movers know that you are well aware about the nature of their work.

Remember to ask these five questions on your moving day to ensure an even smoother move.

Feel free to contact us today with any moving needs you may have about moving in the Pearland, Texas area.

How To Know You Should Hire Professional Movers Versus Doing It Yourself

Moving your home from one residence to another can at first feel like it’s going to be a quick and hassle-free task. But as your moving date gets closer, it becomes a little but more clear that the idea of doing it all yourself might spell disaster.

Here a few signs to let you know that it may be in your best interest to hire professional movers for your moving day.

You are short on time

If working 60 hours a week are your norm, or you are a busy mom with active kids, or you travel a good amount for work, then time may not be on your side to adequately prepare for a move.

Moving takes considerable planning and packing. Most homeowners and renters underestimate how much they have acquired over the years. When they begin packing up their homes, overwhelm can quickly set in.

It may be wise to even hire a team to do the packing and boxing up of your items if you plan on moving the items yourself. That alone will save you time and peace of mind.

You have a significant amount of heavy items

Moving couches, flat screen TVs, tables, beds, and other heavy items takes some serious strength and coordination.

If you have a significant amount of heavy items, hiring professional movers will be a lifesaver for you.

Properly trained and insured movers are experienced at moving even the toughest and heaviest items. Use their expertise to your advantage to cut down on possible damages to your items or challenges with moving heavy items out of your home.

You only know a few people that can reliably help you move

As a moving company we have been called at the last minute by customers countless times because their friends or family either bailed on them or they didn’t have enough volunteer manpower to get their home moved to their new place.

Don’t put yourself in this potential bind. Plan ahead and hire a moving team as early as possible. It will greatly eliminate any last minute calls to moving companies to move your home the same day.

We are an experienced team of movers that have been in business since 1990. We are available for packing up your home or doing full service moves. Based in Pearland, Texas we do local and statewide moves. Contact us today with any of your moving questions or needs.

Five Secrets To a Smooth Move Into Your New Home

Moving ranks number three out of the top five most stressful events most individuals will experience in life according to Health Status magazine.

After performing over 45,000 moves for the past 26 years while in business, we can safely agree that moving can be stressful but we also have learned along the way a few secrets that will make your move less stressful.

1. Book your move in advance

Waiting to the last minute to schedule your move can lead to unnecessary stress due to two possible outcomes. One, the move may costs you more for booking on such short notice and two, it may be harder to find a company with availability on the date you need.

We recommend booking your move at least one month before your move-in date. That will ensure that the date you need gets secured and will be most cost effective for you.

2. Schedule your move for early in the day

Getting an early start time will allow you to have more than enough time to get completely moved into your new home or adjust quickly to any unforeseen issues that may arise.

With Moore and Son you can schedule your move to begin as early as 8am Monday through Saturday.

3. Secure adequate amounts of moving supplies

Time and time again, homeowners and renters underestimate how much moving supplies they will need to safely pack and transport their furniture and personal items.

Take an inventory of every major item you have that’s fragile such as television sets, art, dinnerware, and décor. It’s a good rule of thumb to buy a box that can transport only1-3 of each into a single box.

You will also need to purchase often overlooked supplies such as shrink wrap, bubble wrap, foam peanuts, and fragile stickers along with several cases of packing tape.

4. Have an alternative form of payment on hand

Even in our technologically advanced world, things can still do wrong.

If you are planning to pay by debit or credit card, have a physical check or cash on hand to pay for your move as a back up.

5. Have clear access to your new residence

Make sure that on moving day you have complete access to your now home. That includes security codes, remote control access, and all keys.

Also, make sure that a clear path is available for moving trucks to load or unload your home or that you have reserved elevator access so movers can easily move your items.

Sticking to these five moving day secrets will dramatically help you have a stress-free move.

Does Moore & Son Moving “Price Match”?

Does Moore & Son Moving Co Offer Price Matching?

I have been getting this question a lot lately and the short answer is NO.  If you would like the long answer please keep reading.

When a store offers price matching on a product, say Fruit Loops for example, they are offering to match the price on the EXACT same product from another store.  However, we charge for a service which is moving your household goods from one location to another.  We cannot offer price matching on a “service” because that would be saying another local mover that charges a lot less per hour is offering the same level of service and experience we provide at a lot more per hour.  It is very likely the cheaper moving company hires day laborers or inexperienced workers and we do not.  Our guys have many, many years of experience and are permanent employees.  You are paying for their expertise and experience which is what you would want in order to get your worldly possessions from point A to point B without being destroyed.

So keep in mind “you get what you pay for” and “experienced labor isn’t cheap and cheap labor isn’t experienced”.

Community of the week – Pomona in Manvel

Pomona

I picked this article up off of www.pomonalivesmart.com.  It describes the new community now in Manvel TX.  We are super excited to start getting people moved into the beautiful new homes that are being built!  I really like the idea of the wetlands and protective waters.  In this day and age when children are growing up indoors and around numerous technological gadgets, it makes me so happy to see something like this so the kids can get outdoors and experience nature!

Manvel, TX (June 9, 2014) – Hillwood Communities, in partnership with McGuyer Homebuilders, Inc. (MHI), has broken ground on Pomona, its first Houston-area master-planned community located in the heart of the rapidly growing Highway 288 corridor in Manvel, Texas.

Approximately 2,100 single-family homes are planned for the 1,000-acre, $700 million property. The first phase of Pomona consists of 300 homes with prices ranging from $250,000 to $450,000, offered by top Houston builders Highland Homes, David Weekley Homes, Coventry Homes, Plantation Homes and Trendmaker Homes.

Pomona is centered on the Mustang Bayou, which will serve as a heart of the community and create a laid-back, coastal environment for residents. Hillwood plans to leave more than 300 acres of the property open in the form of wetlands and protective waters, and also make improvements to the bayou by planting native grasses and trees.

“The City of Manvel is proud to welcome Hillwood Communities and Pomona to our community. We are very excited about Hillwood’s involvement and our commitment to making Manvel ‘The Woodlands of the South,’” said Mayor Delores Martin of Manvel. “Hillwood Communities has been a joy to work with, and we look forward to bringing five-star rated homes to our community.”

The community will feature amenities such as trails, resort pool, kid pool, fishing pier, clubhouse, playground, schools and gathering spaces linked by an extensive trail system. Hillwood Communities is currently in contract with Alvin ISD to sell 13 acres of the property to build an elementary school.

“We’re thrilled to break ground on what will be Hillwood Communities first Houston-area development,” said Fred Balda, President of Hillwood Communities. “We’ve made every effort to carry out our initial vision for Pomona by offering modern conveniences in a relaxed setting that preserves the bayou and surrounding coastal features.”

The location is near retail and major employment areas including the Pearland Town Center, the Houston Medical District, Houston Hobby Airport, Downtown Houston, the Galleria and Greenway Plaza.

Pomona will be built on Hillwood’s five LiveSmart design principles: Sense of Community, Technology, Healthy Living, Environmental Stewardship and Education & Enrichment.

“We are proud to extend Hillwood Communities’ LiveSmart principles to the Houston market, allowing for a quality of life that includes sustainability and healthy living, all while creating a community close to downtown Houston,” said Brian Carlock, Senior Vice President of Hillwood Communities.

I called for a quote and it went to voicemail…

phone
If you have called for a move quote during office hours and get our voicemail, here’s why.  I like to be the only person who talks to our customers from start to finish.  The summer months get very busy and I don’t like to put our customer’s on hold several times during a call.  If I put someone I am talking to on hold every time the 2nd line rings, I feel that I cannot successfully answer all their questions and give them an accurate quote.  Plus there’s the frustration of the customer for being put on hold so many times.  Therefore, more often than not, I will let it go to voicemail so I can give each potential customer my undivided attention.  If you get our voicemail, don’t just hang up, please leave me a message and I will call you back as soon as I can.  I look forward to hearing from all our future customers in the Pearland, Friendswood, Manvel and surrounding areas!

Pearland High School Sr Prom 2016

Pearland High School had their Senior prom last night in Galveston.  My beautiful daughter went with her sweet boyfriend.  We love seeing the kids in our community get all dressed up and go out for what will be their last high school activity aside from graduation.  I hope you all had a good time and created lots of beautiful memories!

What happens if it is raining on the day of our move?

We almost never cancel a move because of the weather.  The only exceptions are going to be hurricane like conditions and severe flooding.  However, the customer can cancel or postpone if they feel it is necessary.   Keep in mind though, if you postpone, it may be several days before we can reschedule your move.

Texas weather, as you know, is very fickle.   And, the weatherman has been known to be wrong on many, many, many occasions.  We know that in most instances the customer has no choice but to be out of their house on that date.   We will take extra precautions to protect the furniture from the rain while loading and unloading the truck.  We will also lay down pads where necessary to avoid tracking water and mud into the house.  So, please do not panic if the forecast shows rainy weather on your move date.  We all know the weatherman isn’t always right but if by some miracle he is, just know we will get you moved as carefully and safely as possible during rainy weather.
