Community of the week – Pomona in Manvel



I picked this article up off of www.pomonalivesmart.com.  It describes the new community now in Manvel, TX.  We are super excited to start getting people moved into the beautiful new homes that are being built!  I really like the idea of the wetlands and protective waters.  In this day and age when children are growing up indoors and around numerous technological gadgets, it makes me so happy to see something like this so the kids can get outdoors and experience nature!

Manvel, TX (June 9, 2014) – Hillwood Communities, in partnership with McGuyer Homebuilders, Inc. (MHI), has broken ground on Pomona, its first Houston-area master-planned community located in the heart of the rapidly growing Highway 288 corridor in Manvel, Texas.

Approximately 2,100 single-family homes are planned for the 1,000-acre, $700 million property. The first phase of Pomona consists of 300 homes with prices ranging from $250,000 to $450,000, offered by top Houston builders Highland Homes, David Weekley Homes, Coventry Homes, Plantation Homes and Trendmaker Homes.

Pomona is centered on the Mustang Bayou, which will serve as a heart of the community and create a laid-back, coastal environment for residents. Hillwood plans to leave more than 300 acres of the property open in the form of wetlands and protective waters, and also make improvements to the bayou by planting native grasses and trees.

“The City of Manvel is proud to welcome Hillwood Communities and Pomona to our community. We are very excited about Hillwood’s involvement and our commitment to making Manvel ‘The Woodlands of the South,’” said Mayor Delores Martin of Manvel. “Hillwood Communities has been a joy to work with, and we look forward to bringing five-star rated homes to our community.”

The community will feature amenities such as trails, resort pool, kid pool, fishing pier, clubhouse, playground, schools and gathering spaces linked by an extensive trail system. Hillwood Communities is currently in contract with Alvin ISD to sell 13 acres of the property to build an elementary school.

The location is near retail and major employment areas including the Pearland Town Center, the Houston Medical District, Houston Hobby Airport, Downtown Houston, the Galleria and Greenway Plaza.

Pomona will be built on Hillwood’s five LiveSmart design principles: Sense of Community, Technology, Healthy Living, Environmental Stewardship and Education & Enrichment.
